The focus of IB students and their CAS activities is to meet the 8 Learning Outcomes at least once.
Learning Outcome #2 is stated as “Undertake new challenges.”
Clarifying explanation: a new challenge may be an unfamiliar activity, or an extension to an existing one.
I interpret Learning Outcome #2 as “Students need to stretch themselves, go out of their comfort zone, try something new, try to do something they’re not comfortable with or used to.” Meeting this outcome will vary from student to student, but the key is simple: branch out and try something new even if it’s within an activity the student is already doing.
This Learning Outcome forces students to stretch and grow in ways they never would have imagined, and in some cases forces the student to engage in truly meaningful service.
